Explore Ten Sleep

A charming mountain town where epic outdoor adventure meets genuine Western hospitality.
Fishing & Creekside Relaxation
Tensleep Creek tumbles through spectacular canyon walls, carving out deep pools full of wild rainbow and brown trout about 3,000 per mile. With fewer anglers around, casting here feels like a private experience. If you’re up for traversing rocky terrain and underbrush you can reach secluded and often unfished holes and sections of water.
Hiking to Alpine Lakes and Waterfalls
Just east on Hwy 16, the Cloud Peak Skyway leads to West and East Tensleep Lakes, perfect for non-motorized boating, fishing, camping, and hiking. Take a short hike to West Tensleep Falls and take in the scenery or even swim in the crisp mountain water below the falls. Trails climb into the Cloud Peak Wilderness, visiting Lake Helen, Lake Marion, Misty Moon, and even summiting Cloud Peak at 13,167 ft.
Camping with Bighorn Views
West Tensleep Lake Campground offers serene, forested lakeside sites under lodgepole pines and firs. A popular launch point for day trips or overnight backpacking into the high country. The Big Horn National Forest in this area is filled with campgrounds that offer basic amenities like restrooms, tables, and fire-rings while still giving a real mountain camping experience.
Limestone Canyon Cragging
Ten Sleep Canyon is a limestone climbing mecca with over 800 bolted sport routes across steep, pocketed crags. It’s “a little western town with a big heart” for climbers of all levels.
Town & Local Flavor
In town, you’ll find cozy main-street cafés, the historic Ten Sleep Mercantile building (since 1905), two local bars, motels, and the popular Ten Sleep Brewing Company nestled under red cliffs and pouring small-batch beers since 2013.
From creekside casting and leafy lakeside camping to climbing epic canyon walls and relaxing with craft beer in town, Ten Sleep is an authentic Wyoming escape where outdoor thrills and community warmth go hand in hand.
