The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking for the public’s help after three bull elk were illegally shot and left to waste northeast of Hyattville, near Medicine Lodge Archaeological Site.
Two dead bull elk were discovered Oct. 15 within 200 yards of each other, approximately three-fourths of a mile south of the archaeological site. A third bull elk carcass was found nearby the following day.
According to Game and Fish, all three elk had been shot, and their entire carcasses were abandoned. No meat, heads or antlers were taken.
The carcasses were already decomposed and scavenged when discovered, indicating the animals had died well before the hunting season opened. Investigating wardens estimate the elk were killed between Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity or vehicles in the area during that period, or who has other information about the killings, is encouraged to contact Game and Fish.
